Samantha Lance is a curator and writer currently based in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Canada. She recently became the new curator for the Visual Arts Centre of Clarington and will be moving to Bowmanville, Ontario in January 2025. She holds a Master of Visual Studies in Curatorial Studies degree from the University of Toronto and a BFA with Distinction in Criticism and Curatorial Practice from OCAD University. Her Graduating Exhibition, The Love that Remains, was recently on display at the Art Museum at the University of Toronto (May 1–July 27, 2024). Samantha's writing has been published by The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, C Magazine, and the Master of Museum Studies Student Publication at U of T. She is a recipient of the John and Myrna Daniels Foundation Opportunity Award.
Samantha has worked and interned at The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery, Onsite Gallery, and the Art Gallery of Algoma, and she has volunteered as a Gallery Guide for the Art Gallery of Ontario. She recently worked as a summer Registrar for the Art Gallery of Algoma to assist with research for their upcoming 50th anniversary exhibition.
With a focus on supporting artists of diverse backgrounds, Samantha plans to create exhibitions and programs that bring hope and spark meaningful bonds between communities. She continues to expand her worldview by learning about artists and their cultures, ancestries, life experiences, and spiritual beliefs different from her own. Samantha is interested in experimental exhibition strategies that reimagine the museum or gallery as a multisensory, accessible space for visitors to share their unique perspectives on art.
